Sweep
Picking Lick

By
Kris Barras

Theory

This lick is to be
used over an E minor chord, and is using 3 different arpeggios
over an Em11 vamp. The first is a Gmaj7 arpeggio leading into
an A major then into an Em before the legato run down. The use
of the A major arpeggio gives the sound of E Dorian (E F# G A
B C# D), the 2nd mode of D major.

Technique Tips

This is a phrase designed
for people with basic knowledge of sweep picking.

Here are some things
to watch out for:

• Make sure
you angle your pick slightly in the direction you are sweeping.

• Don’t use too much pick, just 2mm will do it.
• Make sure each note sounds individually and not as a chord.
